Many server rooms begin as a spare office with a rack and a few UPS units. Over time, cables tangle, cooling becomes inadequate, nobody documents what is connected where — and the room that hosts the organization's most critical systems is its least engineered space.

Servers fail from their environment more often than from age: heat, dust, power fluctuations and accidental cable pulls. A properly engineered room protects equipment, simplifies maintenance and makes failures far less likely.
